Besides Dave and Andy I am looking for other Michigan people that have a music related Blogspot or something to that effect.

I just have to install some new software and I should be ready to start posting again. Not that I did much in the first place.
With so many blogs out there this feels like a waste of time. At least I'll have a reason to start ripping my vinyl and cassettes again.
May have my first new post up by the end of the day.

Ive heard good things, but whenever Ive tried to set something up its proven to be pretty difficult.

Yeah, I just recently started trying to get http://www.yourweightinwords.com more active again, and am looking for submissions!

And yes! The past five years or so there hasn't really been anything going on with hardcore in the U.P. but some friends and I have started playing again and super excited about it. Check out Totally Deece and Game Ender, both U.P. bands.

Jake, who have you tried to set shows up with in the past? For the past ten years we've had shows at a non-profit skatepark/venue we used to run, but that's pretty much gone under now. A new venue is being built right now in my hometown though, and the kids who started it are way into hardcore music, so that's going to be really cool.

One of the dudes who owns the building also owns a construction company that's doing a lot of other stuff right now, and there sort of working on the venue when they can find time. Not so sure on a date, they've been pushing it back for nearly a year now.. I can tell you that the stage is pretty much finished, though.

the idea of a scene in the u.p. is awesome to me. i remember how befuddled i was when i found out there was a scene in alpena, though there isn't anymore, it was pretty cool when shows would happen up there. keep us informed on the happenings up there, i'd love to come play there sometime.

im not well versed in UP hardcore but there have been a good variety of bands from here soundwise, sah, calumet hecla (their really a massachusetts band with U.P. roots) snowshoe priests....all more on the "post rock" side of things, but all damn good bands.....


would be awesome to have a functioning showspace in marquette....

I've never been to the UP and would love to go, shows would give me a good excuse to do so.

Both great releases. The songwriting on Cold Fish is more focused than on the s/t. The B side of Cold Fish is closer to what the 12" is like. The 12" has more dark/evil vibes and is a bit more abstract so I gotta go with the s/t 12" over Cold Fish.

I don't have Mass Dream yet but if the few songs I've heard are a proper representative of the whole album that sounds like it is going to be good too.

Calumet-Hecla broke up (I think), and some of them formed a band called Goddard. Really great stuff, but, yeah, more post-punk/math rock.

And, yeah, MQT is really lacking a good showspace. There are bars and such, but no all ages venues, which is a major bummer.

i was in marquette tuesday (im always there a few times a month, i live in the shithole known as munising) and there were alot of buildings up for rent that looked like they could be good possible showspaces.........if i had the cash at hand, id seriously look into possibly renting one of em........
