Does that mean you may be interested? Last person we tried out was a perfect match vocally, but proved not to be perfect in the whole "not doing hard drugs" aspect...

What kind of drugs are we talking about here? Because that might help validate you with the oh-so-important hardcore messageboard demographic.

Saying "Hold on, I gotta use the bathroom" and leaving a telltale dirty needle in my trash can is not cool. At all.

Your dad is a black-metal influenced female vocalist? (that apparently didn't make the cut...)

Key word being "telltale" here...

If she was doing smack she would have kept the needle for later use.

call me a complete fucking moron, but i can see literally one way this isnt sexist, and a terrible gimmick. that would be if this is a really outspoken issue driven band that is planning on focusing on sexism, and feels a female singer would help to get that point across. please explain how a man with the same pitch and vocal abilities that a woman has wouldnt be acceptable?

i know all of these things have already been mentioned, but i thought maybe asking as direct as possible might pull out a non-dodged response from the original poster?

unless your dad is a female, he is ineligible for this position, and that information is completely useless.

I'm not going to be a male and write songs focusing on sexism from a woman's perspective, for a woman. If a female who does vocals so chooses to write about sexism, or racism, or making sandwiches, or counting the tiles on the bathroom floor, that's her prerogative. The reason female vocals are the important part is, as you said, due to the pitch and vocal abilities (in this case, the sound we're looking for is similar to between that of the vocals for Sacrilege and the vocals for After the Bombs). I don't think it's at all sexist to say "We need female vocals for this" because that's the sound we're looking for which so happens to require a woman's voice. At the same time a woman couldn't do most hardcore vocals you hear today, because most women lack the ability to sound like a pitbull.

You seem confused. I don't think you read Chris' post right.

Also, I have met quite a few women who can make the same screaming/barking/growling/what-the-fuck-ever-sounds that men can, and your post insinuates otherwise. Your original post might as well read "powerviolence band in need of female guitar player". I don't get it.

On one hand, I think it is fucking awesome when females are in bands. Ideally, the ratio of males to females in punk would be even.
On the other hand, specifically seeking out a female vocalist raises a few questions in my brain, the first being: are you going to make it clear that you are a "female fronted" band?
That is always a little grating, unless promoting for a feminist event/band or something similar, as Chris already mentioned.
Sacrilege and After the Bombs? Anyone, male or female, can make that sound. Just douse the vocals in reverb and have the person shout. It'll sound cool.

Telltale dirty needle? Story sounds fishy. Shithawks, Randy.

Maybe it would be acceptable, but the ratio of high-pitched, effeminate men interested in punk to actual women, is rather low. Hence, offering a spot to a woman is much easier and much more prone for success. Going out of your way to not be sexist is retarded.

I'm pretty sure that the point everyone is trying to get across is that women who sing in hardcore bands sounds like dudes. Hence all the links to female fronted bands that sound masculine. Guys can have high pitched voices, and girls can have low voices. Male or female, hardcore vocalists all sound the same.

on account of your density, regardless if youre being sexist or not, i wont be listening to your band on sheer principle alone.
