This was a great show, but it started too late so Cloud Rat didn't get to play because the police came. My best friend lives there and he got a lecture about not even attempting to talk to the neighbors about a big house show. No need for the police to show up here for the first time after doing shows for YEARS.
Every single band took too long to setup, and The Oily Menace was the worst offender. But in our defense the meatballs who live there were really excited to see us and all crowded around every band making it impossible to move. Nothing new here.
Cycles started out, and instead of two guitarists, they are using bass and guitar. Some of the cool dissonant melodies are gone because of that, but its more filled out obviously with the bass.
Chumm was siick. Spazzy hc/grind, two singers. Richard had some cool stuff to say about state oppression that you shouldn't be shocked by cops and recent violence. What do you expect from a pig but a grunt?
Condominium was awesome. They plowed through a ton songs. Similar to say someone like Culo (not to say they sound anything alike), its 80s hardcore midwest style...nothing new, just written and played so well its on the level of instant classic. Maybe someday I will be in a band this good.
Oily Menace played next. Did a Cloud Rat cover and the cops came. Too much meathead moshing going on for my taste, but there were still a few ladies in the pit. I told some jokes, and I'd like to repeat a few of them here:
How do you know when you are an anarchist? Your clothes are all black and your friends are all white.
How do you know if there is a vegan in the room? They will tell you.
What is Barney Greenway's favorite type of bread? RRRRYYYYYEEEE.
