Might go since for whatever reason it's at the token. You've catered to my interests.

Should be a legit time. Also, I guess the show is $8 instead of $5. Totally not punx, but I'm not the one making the rules.

Yep. I'm not entirely sure what the situation is about concerning the venue and how it deals with funds, but I'd prefer to be cheaper. Might see if I can talk it down before then.

John Anton needs the extra three bucks to put his movie out.

I don't know if it has changed but it used to be $8...

$7 for the venue
$1 and for the the band

People have to specify who they came to see upon entering the venue and that determines where that one dollar goes.

Yeah! And if ten friends come the whole band can get large frostys after!

The concept of $5 shows is getting ridiculous. $5 in 1990 is well over the equivalent of $8 now due to inflation. Not to mention that gas costs about double what it cost back then, even when accounting for inflation (approx. $1.20 in 1990 dollars is approx. $2 in 2010 dollars). I'm not trying to say that I was around back then and that I know what it was like. I'm just saying that the $5 show is probably an outdated ideal.

That being said, $7 for the venue and $1 (if any) per band is shitty. I know I'm only in Wells for the money, but still...

In all seriousness though,

Bump for boners. Also I'm not sure if the venue is allowing more than four bands, even though most have short sets.

Cory, I agree that $5 is essentially nothing for a show. And I don't think people should complain when a show is $10-15 when it has a couple touring bands on it. But at $8 for an all local show, something's fishy.

Here's a thought, don't play or book shows at Token.
I think the same ass hat that owned the original Blondies is running the Token now.

Yea John I agree with you. Thing is, we booked this show and all I had seen was a flyer that said $5. Found out later it was $8. It is what it is. I was only ranting on the $5 thing because motherfuckers will pay $7 for a fast food meal or a couple of 40s but will complain about very reasonable show prices. Or try and squeak by at the door. I know you know what that's about after booking/working the door at all the Metal Frat shows.

turn_coat, can you fill me in on the Blondies/Token guy? Shady past? I honestly am ignorant about this guy/venue. Last time I was at the Token was probably 6 or 7 years ago.

turn_coat

turn_coat

Yeah the guy that did Blondies and did run Token for at least a while I was told just treated bands like shit.

As far as my opinion on show prices in general for DIY shows goes I see nothing wrong with $5-$6 for an all local show.
Once you get touring bands involved $7-$8. If you get around 3 touring bands maybe shoot for $10, but that is pushing it. You have to remember that being broke applies to bands and fans too.
If you can't make money, break even or take a minimal loss on a tour you probably shouldn't be out on the road yet.

And if you are going to book a show the second question you ask after if the date you want is open is how does the money work?

When we set the show up there, the dude told us we could have six bands, could go all night, and could all get payed if we brought in a 21+ drinking crowd. But then the show's date got moved and he told us we could only have four bands and that it was going to cost $8 (and I think that $7-$1 ratio that someone posted is exactly why). He also told us that it would have to start at 6 and end by 9 because he was planning on having some industrial goth night thing afterwards (which is where he is going to "make [his] money that night.").

It's been a hassle with this dude doing the show. I honestly thought setting up a tiny show there would be easy, but it's been more fucking stress than anything. And now with the Tyrant, Build and Destroy, Retribution show being on the same day, I'm wondering if we should still even do the show or not.

Not that playing for only a few people bothers me at all, but if on top of that, each band is only going to make $20 (and that's probably with hoping the venue's feeling generous that day) and we're going to have to put up with that Russian-speaking door guy (not sure if he still works there or not) and his son John, it may be in everyone's interest if we cancel the show (or better, get it moved somewhere else and get some other bands on it).

I haven't been to this venue in years (since the good old days of Ryan Hetkowski shows), but I now remember why I stopped going and why most bands stopped playing there.

I know very little about the Token Lounge or its management, but after reading about all this nonsense, it would more than likely be better if the show were changed and moved (location and perhaps even date-wise). They seem to be putting up more trouble than it's worth, especially with the times, the pricing and where it all goes. Far too much constraint and control. Also, the xTyrantx release show seems to have a solid lineup back-to-back, and 'competing' with that would be bordering on futile.

tl;dr - Let's find a better place for this shindig

I'm game if the other bands are. I think someone from each band is posting in this aside from COF, but I know the vocalist and can talk to him. Any ideas on a venue, Josh (somewhere that we can charge only $5 at and get more bands to play)?

Nick_H

Nick_H

Canceled. Didn't feel like dealing with John Anton and almost everyone on the show wanted to go to the show that same day (Tyrant/Hellmouth/Build and Destroy).
