So I signed up for a new account, just to reply to this thread, because this show is important to me.
Chris Nance died in a tragic accident on the way to one of our shows. His friends who are in all of these bands called me that night and the next day, completely distraught. They wanted to do something. I was at the funeral home. Everyone wanted to help. Because this is what bands do, and what we do, we wanted to put together a show to honor Chris's memory, and help raise some money for his family. They spent an awful lot extra to make sure the service and the preparations were perfect so that Chris's friends and family could cope in the way they see fit.
All of these bands are donating 100% of their time to this event, as are we. We are paying the Opera House to rent the facility. We are paying the sound guy a minimal amount, less than his usual, to do sound. We're paying out of pocket for advertising and to staff the event.
100% of the rest of the money will go directly to Chris's grandma, to do two things. The first thing is to take care of some of the outstanding funeral costs, which still have not been paid. The rest of the money will go to establishing a fund in Chris's name. Chris's grandma is still working on exactly what that fund will do, but her and I talked about the fact that he was wanting to become a chef someday, so it might be a scholarship fund for culinary arts, or something along those lines.
As for using Chris's photo in the flyer, that was again the family's choice. It IS in there to bring out emotion. That's the only way to cope with such a tragic event. Chris was one of our most loyal show-goers. He went to hardcore shows, metal shows, and he was also there when it was something completely different. It tears me up that he died on the way to one of our shows, same as it tears up Siren the Escape and Endeavors, who were playing that show.
Anyway, for Tim, I'm sorry our logo is "too big". When walking down the street in Howell, and seeing a poster in a window, it might occur to some folks that they want to know where to find more information about the show. Hit me up on FB chat if you'd like to discuss further. I'm more than happy to explain myself to you. Or maybe even face to face at one of our shows that you do attend sometime.
As for "presale tickets" and such, the Opera House only lets 200-250 people in. If you check the FB event for the show, it's looking like it's going to be bigger than that. The option is there to buy the tickets online, and every band on the bill except one has asked for presale tickets to sell. I was going to go without presales for this one, but the people that want to get in the most have a chance to.
I know that I'm not really welcome on this board, and I'm OK with that. But this is something close enough to my heart that I needed to say something. Hopefully some of you guys come support the family.
If my legacy is anything like what Chris has left behind, with the incredible strengthening of friendships and forming of bonds for a bunch of local kids that I know needed that kind of support and friendship, then I can die happy. This kid left behind him a wave of positivity that's something we should all hope for. This show is a celebration of that.
Have a good day.
