I enjoy it, but my wallet doesn't. So, I usually drink CAMO.

I like Two-Hearted quite a bit.

My wallet doesn't really allow it either.
So I have switched to quality over quantity lately.
As you beer enthusiasts know many highbrow beers pack a seriuos punch despite a small quantity.
It almost works out in the end as far as how intoxicated you end up but why waste quality brew when you are too drunk to appreciate it?

I don't like IPA's. I will stop there for now.

I am trying to convince peoplebto get me the no8 & no12 split case. No takers so far.

My main focus right now is having every trappist beer.
Second is all that unibroue has to offer.

Last night was Westmalle Dubble that was excellent and Quatre-Centieme which is the worst beer from Unibroue I've had yet.

Tonight looks like Rochefort 10 and Westmalle Triple.

Ive been pickin up la fin du monde lately because im working OT. If you want to treat yourself to a deliciously strong brew, pick up a four pack.

Yeah it Unibroue and damn good. If you like that try Don De Dieu, Ephemere (currant and apple flavor), Trois Pistoles and Maudite as well. Unibroue is very consistent with producing quality beers. I still need to try their Chambly series and then there are only a couple beers left they brew I haven't had nore have I seen them for sale in the states ever.

Rogue Brewery. I tend to avoid their beers cause I think are mediocre at best and highly overrated/popularized.
However Rogue Chocolate Stout is a fucking awesome beer. It is not super pricey and worthy of your tastebuds.

This past Monday, I finally checked out Liberty Street Brewing Company in Plymouth. I tried their amber, porter (I think it was called Liberty One), and one of their IPAs (I think it was called Barber's Garden). Limited food, but it's good, local beer and the pints are imperial pints (20 oz.). And Monday was all day happy hour so it really wasn't that expensive.

It sucks that a majority of the brewpups around the Detroit area don't have a nice balance between the food and the beer.
That said I might check out Baraboo tonight.

Last night drank some J.K.'s Scrumpy Hard Cider. I drink this shit all the time. Organic unfiltered farmhouse style cider made in Michigan. You'll never want to touch Woodchuck, Strongbow or Woodpecker again after some J.K.'s.

Also had a 750 ml bottle of Ommegang Abbey Ale. It's an american made belgian style dubbel ale. Pretty good. If you like dark fruits like figs, dates, prunes or tamarinds you would like this. Had a medicinal taste at the end I didn't care for and at 8.5% abv the alcohol shows in the aftertaste.

Tonights game plan is some of the worlds best straight out of Grand Rapids. Founders Breakfast Stout.

Have you ever had Founder's Kentucky Breakfast Stout? One of my old housemates bought some when it came out this year and gave me a bottle. I had some more of it at the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival this summer in Ypsilanti (seriously, go to this next year if you haven't). It's so strong, you really have to share a bottle with a friend. A lot of the coffee taste gets replaced with this awesome bourbon flavor. It's one of the most complex beers I've ever tasted.

Both Breakfast Stouts are made using a powdered chocolate that also contains milk, so vegans beware. Founders wasn't even vegetarian until a few years ago when they stopped using an isinglass based fining agent. More info at http://barnivore.com

My favorite beers in Michigan are the Bier de Mars and ES Bam from Jolly Pumpkin, and for American style stuff Bells Two Hearted and Founders Rye PA.

KBS is the shit. Founders in general is A+.

As for the vegan thing check the link I posted above. It is shocking how many brews are not vegan.

P.s. breakfast style stout fans. Go to Baraboo brewpub in Clinton Twp. And have their seasonal Coffee and Cream Stout. Damn good stuff.

I haven't made the leap from vegetarian to vegan yet, so the milk doesn't really concern me. But damn was I ignorant about the isinglass thing. Thanks for the heads up and the great website!

Not sure, but the guess was this had been aged around 18 years or more. Legendary and elusive beer. Deserving of the hype. If you ever get a chance to score a bottle in a trade go for it.

another unibroue fan here. i first gave their beers a shot when i was at village corner in ann arbor and saw the label for "trois pistoles." thought it looked metal as fuck / like magic card art, so i had to try it, hahaha. everything i've had of theirs has been really good. i don't drink that often, but when i do i like something with some flavor behind it.

I've yet to find a unibroue beer that I dont like.

Another good brewery is north coast brewery. I believe it's out of California. The brother thelonious is my current favorite and I believe a portion of the profits also goes to music education which is cool.

Brother thelonious, highly recommended.

There are some pretty bad Unibroue beers. Most of the shittier ones you don't see often or aren't available in the states.

This is an excellent beer from another incredible brewpub right in our own backyard.
Kuhnehenn is in Warren and makes a huge array of beer and you pretty much can't lose no matter what you pick.

good to know. i haven't heard of kuhnehenn either, but will add that to my list of things to look for. i'm by no means an expert, but i do check ratebeer.com from time to time, and will look for stuff to try at various places around ann arbor. recently tried gulden draak, enjoyed it quite a bit. stoked to try something unfamiliar that's michigan-made though!
