Do they seriously cancel every show?! Did they play that show at The Shelter with H8 Inc after The Suicide Machines show in July?

Yeah, they played.
No they didn't, bloody knuckle combat replaced them. I was the only one who went.

Fighting Uruk-Hai wrote:That's awesome. Track down their "Friends of Rock n Roll" LP, it's more along the lines of how they sound now. The first one is great, but isn't as distorted and aggressive, I had to hear the second one before the first one made sense to me. They play a lot of new songs live.
My thoughts on the show... This was exactly the kind of bill I had in mind when we started doing these, like an old CB's show with 4 top notch local bands, all generally hardcore but with variety in the sound. So I was really psyched about that, and I thought all the other bands nailed it. The turn out would have packed Refuge, but the Shelter is pretty big so it seemed sparse. Part of the reason we do shows at the Shelter is there's no bullshit involved. We give them a date and a deposit, done and done. I don't know if people realize it, but we (Len and I) are responsible for running the door, paying the bands, paying the sound guy, etc. The Shelter pretty much just runs the bar. Everything else is up to us. It was cracking me up last night that people were bring their dinner in, but fuck it, why not? Totally ok.
Back to the turnout, it was alright by the numbers, but if you consider we personally gave 1000 people fliers (I stood at the door at the NA and Suicide Machines shows and gave everyone a flier as they came in, similarly with SOIA and other small shows), the response ratio is pathetic. I've been wracking my brain all summer trying to figure this stuff out. I go to a variety of shows, often by myself, and I only recognize a couple people from one show to another. There are a lot of people in the metro area who like punk/hc, but you wouldn't know it from how many people are ever at one show. I don't know if people don't care, if they're just into their tiny little niche, they won't travel, hell, I don't know. We do these shows because we want to have a good time with this music and share that with other people, and it seems backwards that its so difficult sometimes. That aside, last night was a really good time, and thanks to the bands and everyone who came out and made it so.
In the backroom of the shelter they had popcorn and hot sauce. $1.50. heads up for the cro-mag munchies. Veggie dogs and pretzels too.Chris wrote:dhr wrote:I think it was Graham that started the dinner-bringing thing. It enhanced my experience.
anywhere i can bring my dinner i appreciate that much more. for a while amc theatres would let you bring whatever you want in, and we would bring pizza, fast food, ... made going to the movies that much more cool.
